Welcome to Being Better than yesterday

Hello Everybody!

I'm sure you're wondering why I've gathered you all here. Sorry, I couldn't resist that one. Anyway, maybe I am a stranger to you, maybe I'm not. However, I think a quick introduction and reasoning as to why I'm writing this is in order.

My name is Sean. I am one of the founders of Better Than Yesterday Performance. I am a Certified Nutrition Coach, hybrid athlete, and currently training for my first marathon. Why am I telling you all of this?

Well, because if you knew me from 5 years ago, you would never have guessed those words would be coming out of my mouth. Growing up, I was always the heavy guy. I don't really remember a time in my childhood where I wasn't bigger than most of the people I knew.

As a senior in high school, I was tipping the scales at about 260lbs, which then ballooned up to 320lbs once I went to college and introduced alcohol into my already abysmal diet. For so long, I had convinced myself that “I was just meant to be the big guy.” I was lost. Depressed. Ashamed of who I was, and tired of living that way.

I remember seeing all of these ultra-fit people on social media and getting so discouraged on just how far I had let myself go. Whenever I looked at getting in shape, it quickly turned into Mount Everest before my eyes and I stopped before I ever even got started.

What I didn't realize at the time was when I compared myself to all of those super athletes on social media, was those people weren't born that way. They worked at it, every day, for years, but I didn't see that. I only saw the result of where they were, and compared them to myself who was winded and sweaty walking up a hill to go to class.

But that was the secret, I didn't need to be those athletes, and I didn't need to be perfect. I just needed to be 1% better than the person I was yesterday. Consistency. So I took the first step (even though I had no idea what I was doing) I started doing 1 thing every day that improved my physical, mental, and emotional health.

Here's the thing about consistency, it compounds, just like the investment advice we all hear about putting a small amount away consistently and over time that interest compounds into much larger sums of money. Our health and habits work the exact same way. We focus on the daily habits of the person we WANT to be, not who we currently are.

I have become addicted to self-betterment, doing the small daily habits that compound over time, and after some time, you can look back and the entire trajectory of your life has changed. So that’s why we are here. It’s why we started Better Than Yesterday Performance.

I want to use this weekly newsletter as an outlet to help share some of the changes, tips, and tricks I have implemented over the years that have not only led to me losing over 120 pounds but living a happier, healthier, and purpose-filled life. So if you've read this far, I thank you for your time and hope this gives you some hope that you are not the story you tell yourself.

You can be and do whatever you want in this life, if you are willing to put in the daily work. Once you accept that challenge, you realize you are Meant For More.

Until next week.

Sean
